Mumbai (Amit Karna). Release dates of many films have been postponed due to the closure of theaters, while some films are being released on the OTT platform. Meanwhile, there is news that Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushman Khurana starrer film 'Gulabo Sitabo' is being released on Amazon app. As soon as this news came to the fore, the multiplex association gave its response.
The association said – the arrival of films on OTT is like a court marriage. The release of a film on the theater is going to be a Bhangra wedding. Now it depends on the choice of the people whether to bring the OTT and get them to register the marriage or bring them to the theater and marry Bhangra. No father wants his daughter to get married in court. Producers will also give priority to theaters in terms of release.
Cannot live on depending on an option
Officials say, “Of course in this situation multiplex and single screen people need help from producers but the case of digital release of 'Gulabo Sitabou' is different. This is a difficult time and in this we cannot remain dependent on just one option. If a producer does not have the power to hold his film, then nothing can be done.
Gulabo Sitabo is not afraid of piracy
Gulabo Sitabo is a film of a segment that is not afraid of piracy. It is a genre of genres like '102 Not Out'. It would do well if the film was released later in theaters. In such a situation, we will deal on terms of low revenue.
Karan will not support digital release
It is also a fact that if 'Gulabo Sitabho' has started the trend of releasing on digital before theaters that it is not going to become the new normal trend. From Karan Johar to the rest of the production house, they have assured that their films will be released in theaters first. He also said that each one has different economic capacity.
If you want to earn 300 million then you have to come to the theater
OTT platforms in America for years but still there are 30000 cinema screens running right now. The same will happen in India. If big budget films want to earn above Rs.250- 300 crores, then it is not possible without theatrical release. In such a situation, the producer has to come.
Ayushman has given 'Gurudakshina'
It is reported in the trade pundits circuit that Ayushmann Khurrana has given his consent to release the film on digital. In this way he has given his Guru Dakshina to Shoojit Sarkar and Ronnie Lahiri. Both of them launched Ayushmann Khurrana with 'Vicky Donor' and made a star. In such a situation, when the issue of releasing this film on digital was raised with Ayushmann, Ayushman could not.
Saif and Sushant signed a contract
Every star wants his film to be released in theaters first. Last year, Sushant Singh Rajput and Saif Ali Khan even started contracting that their film first be released in theaters only after it came to OTT so that their stardom would be maintained. Now, however, the situation is different. Due to the lockdown, the stars are also supporting the producers. So that the process of film making continues.
