This is one roar that one couldn’t really hear from a distance. However, it shook the box office, and how. Despite seeing a mid-release with not many really knowing about its arrival, Godzilla vs Kong has taken a very good opening at the box office. It’s first day business is in the vicinity of Rs. 6.4 crores and that’s the best number for any Hollywood or Bollywood film ever since the reopening of theaters since last Diwali.
The film benefits from a six-day extended weekend (Monday is Holi) and with word of mouth catching up fast, it is bound to dominate right till Sunday. While one waits to see how does the film perform today and tomorrow, it won’t be surprising if the Rs. 10 crores mark is breached on Saturday, Sunday and then Monday.
Meanwhile, both Mumbai Saga and Roohi got impacted due to this Hollywood rampage as they saw a dip in footfalls. Mumbai Saga collected 90 lakhs more and now stands at Rs. 12.60 crores. It would be around Rs. 13.50 crores mark by the time the first week is through and then would be dependent on single screens business to go any further. As for Roohi, it collected Rs. 36 lakhs on Wednesday and currently stands at 21.68 crores. It should be around Rs. 22 crores by the close of its second week.
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
