The teachers have requested the government to stop appointing them for relief work and allow them to return to school duty. Teachers of government schools were put in charge of hunger relief centers, shelter homes, hotspot areas, quarantine centers in lockdown. According to the Delhi Government School Teachers Association (GSTA), 400 school teachers have been infected with the coronavirus so far.
Ajay Vir Yadav, General Secretary, Government School Teachers Association Delhi, said, in the last two months 400 teachers of government schools have become victims of corona infection. The government will have to help their family members. We are demanding safety measures for teachers working at food and ration distribution centers. He said, when we were engaged on the task of distributing dry ration, we started coming in direct contact with the people. Teachers started transitioning from there.
Yadav said, when our duty was under the DM and SDM, they did not respect us teachers at all, which we are sad about. His honor has been hurt due to his bad behavior. We are considered to be gurus. When we demanded a PPE kit from them, we were threatened that 'work has to be done, otherwise we will suspend immediately by taking action under the DDMA Act'. “
