Insurance scheme of Rs 50 lakh will not end, life time extended for health workers

new Delhi: Coronavirus is a relief for health workers who protect people from infection. The government has decided to extend the term of the Rs 50 lakh insurance scheme for those connected to public health services by three months more, in the growing number of patients infected with the corona virus in the country.

The plan will continue till September
Experts say that for the doctors and all other health workers posted in hospitals and health centers, the insurance scheme of Rs 50 lakh has been extended till the end of September. About 22 lakh health workers are being provided special insurance cover under this scheme.

This scheme is being implemented by the New India Assurance Company of the public sector. It was initially implemented till 30 June. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced this insurance scheme in March under the Prime Minister's Poor Welfare Package worth a total of 1.70 lakh crore rupees.

Under this, community health workers are among the total 22.12 lakh health workers associated with government health services. These health workers come in direct contact with people affected by Corona virus infection and in such a situation they are also at risk of getting infected. The scheme is being funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from the National Disaster Response Fund.

This insurance facility is being made available to doctors, nurses, medical assistants, sanitation workers and some others working in hospitals under the Central and State Governments. Announcing the scheme, the Finance Minister had said that the sanitary workers, ward boys, nurses, ASHA workers, assistants, doctors and specialists and other health workers will get the benefit of this special insurance facility.
