Kolkata. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak at the Annual Plenary Session of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) at 11 am today. Modi will attend the event through video conferencing. This will be the second time in 10 days when Modi will join the people of the industry. Earlier on June 2, he spoke on the economy at the annual session of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
GDP growth 4.2% in 2019-20, lowest in 11 years
Modi's involvement in the programs of industry organizations is also important because the country's economic growth has stalled due to Corona infection and lockdown. GDP growth declined to 3.1% in January-March. Growth was just 4.2% for the entire financial year (2019-20), the lowest in 11 years.
Modi confident of returning to economic growth
Modi had said in the program of Confederation of Indian Industry that the growth will surely return and it has started with Unlock-1. The government has confidence in farmers, small-scale industries and industry leaders. The focus is on reinvigorating the economy against Corona.
'The world should have expectations from India, the industry should benefit'
Modi also emphasized on the self-reliant India campaign. He said that the manufacturing sector of the country now needs Made in India, Made for World. Local manufacturing will have to be increased. The world is looking for a reliable partner and confidence in India has increased. The industry should take advantage of this.
