Expert Analysis: To kill 100 terrorists and to kill a sarpanch has its own different meaning – retired le. General Syed Ata Hasnain, (having served as the Corps Commander of the Army in Kashmir)
The country should thank the Indian soldiers that our terrorists have killed 100 terrorists before the completion of 6 months of the year 2020. Even more, in the last 48 to 72 hours, the army has killed 14 terrorists in Shopian, South Kashmir. However, it is a sign of how attentive our jawans are and how effectively our intelligence is working. But in the midst of this success, terrorists recently killed a Kashmiri Pandit sarpanch Ajay Pandita and an alleged local policeman Mukhbir. This indicates that the last mile of everything being normal in Kashmir is still far away. Both trends, achievement and loss have their respective meanings.
There is no doubt and intelligence is telling that the influence of separatists and terrorists is getting reduced. The lockdown caused by Corona has put restrictions in their movement and cannot even find safe havens. Security forces are also taking full advantage of this. But in this game of intelligence, the safety of the source is as important as the protection of minorities.
As the scope of the terrorists decreases and the level of impatience increases, their targets will shrink. Then double efforts will have to be made to protect the minorities. And the heart and mind that we talk about winning will have to be talked about more. Getting to the people and gaining their support successfully completes any such campaign.
