Leaders of 17 opposition parties, led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, will hold an important meeting on the issue of workers' migration and relief package on Friday. The meeting will be held at 3 pm through video conferencing. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will attend a meeting of opposition parties for the first time after becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Uddhav formed the government in Maharashtra with the support of Congress and NCP. However, the Aam Aadmi Party will not be a part of this meeting. AAP leader Sanjay Singh gave this information to the news agency.
Mamta will join the meeting of opposition parties
At the same time, despite the devastation caused by the storm Amfan, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has agreed to participate in this meeting. But Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party have not confirmed their participation in the meeting so far.
Sonia seeks support from opposition parties to surround center
According to sources, Sonia herself has called several leaders of opposition parties to seek their support in working out a joint strategy on the issue of migrant workers. The meeting will also discuss the changes in the existing labor laws. Working hours have been extended in some states. Opposition parties are calling it anti-labor.
Opposition is demanding financial help to laborers
The issue of the relief package issued by the Center will also be discussed in the meeting. Many opposition parties have objected to the Centre's decision not to provide financial assistance directly to migrant laborers. They say that due to coronavirus, the laborers do not already have work. They are compulsively returning to their homes on foot. In such a situation, they need immediate financial help. But the government is not helping them.

CPI general secretary Sitaram Yechury will also attend the meeting. According to sources, they will seek support from opposition parties on the demand for immediate transfer of 7500 rupees to the account of migrant laborers and every poor. Apart from taking the migrant workers free of cost to their home states, they will also raise demand for giving 10 kg free ration to every poor for the next 6 months.
Lockdown continues from March 25 in the country
To prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, a lockdown has been implemented in the country since 25 March. Its fourth phase has started from 18 May. During this period, a large number of workers have left the metros on their way home. Workers have also died in accidents in many places.
